FOOTBALL: Falcons no match for Chester

</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[ Chester scored three times in their four offensive plays to start the first quarter and pulled away from Elverado-Trico for a convincing 68-6 victory on Saturday afternoon in Elkville

The Yellow Jackets racked up 516 yards rushing led by John Baughman's huge 188-yard game on just 4 carries. Dalton Porter was the star for the Falcons with 76 yards on 11 carries.

On the Falcons' first possession, a screen pass from quarterback Alex McGill to Bryce Mathis was just shy of a first down, turning the ball over to Chester at their own 40-yard line with 9:46 to go in the opening quarter of play.

The Yellow Jackets wasted no time as John Baughman swept to the left side and broke free for a 60-yard touchdown run on Chester's first offensive play from scrimmage.

The Jackets kicked onside after the score, but the Falcons were ready as Curtis Compton fell on the loose ball for Elverado-Trico at the 50-yard line.

McGill handed to Porter on first down and it was the Falcons' turn for a big play. Porter broke a 41-yard run down to Chester's 9-yard line, setting up a screen pass on second-and-goal from McGill to Randy Goetz for a 9-yard touchdown.

The two-point conversion failed, and Chester held a slim 7-6 advantage with 8:28 to go in the first.

It was the Falcons trying the onside kick next, but the Jackets would recover at the Elverado-Trico 45-yard line, and again took just one offensive play to reach the end zone.

This time it was Stephen Roth doing the damage, taking the handoff the distance for a 13-6 Chester lead with 8:18 on the first quarter clock.

A fumble deep in their own territory would cost the Falcons on their next possession, as the Jackets recovered at the 25-yard line and needed only two plays to get Roth into the end zone again.

The Falcons tried to fight back, driving into Jackets' territory on the heels of two McGill-to-Mathis connections that resulted in a first down at the Chester 20.

After a sack on third down, however, McGill threw up a prayer on fourth-and-long that was picked off just outside the end zone by a Jackets defender who would have been better off knocking the pass to the ground.

The poor field position did nothing to slow down Chester's offense as they capped off a 93-yard drive with a Baughman 40-yard touchdown run with 5 seconds remaining in the first period.

Chester would continue to pile on the points from there, and the continuous clock came into effect after Baughman's 81-yard run with 4:05 remaining in the third quarter.

Clint Cole also topped 100 yards for the Jackets (109 yards on 6 carries).

McGill was 14-of-24 passing for 139 yards and 2 interceptions for the Falcons.

Elverado-Trico (0-4) is at home again in week five, hosting Vienna on Friday in the Falcons' homecoming game with kickoff set for 7:00 p.m.
