New Athens defeats Steeleville

Steeleville&#39;s volleyball team dropped a Cahokia Conference match to New Athens last week in three games. New Athens won the first game 25-15, Steeleville came back to win the second 25-16, then New Athens won the deciding game 25-14.

Coach Renee Rheinecker wasn&#39;t pleased with the result.

"It just seems we can&#39;t find any consistency in our last couple of games" said Rheinecker. "I just hope we can refocus and pull out some more conference wins this season."

Brooke Rees led in kills with 10 while Alex Gale had six. Rees also led in digs with 15 and Natalie Ruebke had seven. Rees and Ruebke each had two blocks. Assists leaders were Ruebke with eight and Brooke Woods with four. Sara Potter served for nine points and Ruebke and Brooke Cates added five points apiece.

The junior varsity picked up a win over New Athens, winning the first and last games by scores of 25-20 and losing the middle game 26-24. Gale, Ruebke and Cates all connected on key spikes for the Warriors while Tiffany Cathcart led in digs and Ruebke led in assists. Potter served for 11 points, Woods had six and Ruebke added five.
