</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[ Pinckneyville fought gamely in Nashville, but the 23-2 Hornettes managed to come out on top 26-24, 25-20 at Assembly Hall Tuesday night.

Breanne Pelker had nine kills to lead the Hornettes, who remained undefeated in S.I.R.R. conference play at 7-0.

Lindsey Winter led the Lady Panthers with 7 kills, Sara Malanowski finished with a team-high 12 assists.

Jenny Moeller added seven kills for the Hornettes, Kourtney Heggemeier six. Melanie Rhine had 21 assists.

An inadvertant whistle aided Nashville in a key situation late in game one of the match, as with Maddy Keith serving for Pinckneyville with the score tied 21-21, one of the officials accidentally blew their whistle just as Keith struck the ball.

Keith's serve sailed out, and players and coaches looked to the officials for the call, but none was made and the point was awarded to the Hornettes, who ended up taking the game 26-24.

The Lady Panthers will host Du Quoin on Thursday night, travel to Sparta on Tuesday night (Oct. 12) to face the Lady Bulldogs, and return home again next Thursday (Oct. 14) against Carterville.
