VOLLEYBALL: Lady Panthers reach .500 on Senior Night

</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[ Pinckneyville volleyball reached the .500 mark for the first time in 2010, evening their record at 13-13 with a 25-20, 25-25 win over Sparta last night, the same team they will open Regional play with next Thursday.

Maddy Keith, Taylor Cicardi and Haleigh Hagood each had 5 kills for the Lady Panthers in the game to lead the way.

Sara Malanowski again led PCHS in assists with 11, Katie Duvardo had a team-high 6 digs.

The victory was the third in a row for Pinckneyville and avenged a Tuesday, Oct. 12 loss to the Lady Bulldogs at Sparta High School.

The win also completed conference play for the Lady Panthers, who finished up 6-4 and in a second place tie with Du Quoin in the Southern Illinois River-to-River Conference Mississippi Division.

Seniors Cicardi, Duvardo, Hagood, Keith, Malanowski and manager Bethany McConnell were honored prior to the varsity contest as part of the Senior Night festivities at Thomas Gymnasium.

Sparta (seeded No. 2) and Pinckneyville (No. 3) face off for the third time in sixteen days next Thurday at 7:00 p.m., following the opening contest between No. 1 seed Nashville and Red Bud (No. 4). The winners of the two games will meet on Saturday at 7:00 p.m. to decide the Sparta Regional champion.

The Lady Panthers finish out the regular season at Marissa this Thursday evening (7:30 p.m.).
