Chester High School Basketball Cheerleaders 2010-2011
</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[The 2010-2011 Chester High School Basketball and Competition Team features 10 members including one senior, eight sophomores and one freshman. . The unit has been very busy preparing for the upcoming basketball and competition season.
This year's squad is very young and introduces three rookies who just joined the team for the basketball and competition season. The lone senior is Brittney Eyman who joined the team this fall as a first-year senior for football season.
The team is heavy with eight sophomores which include second-year sophomores Emilee Mattingly, Jessica Miller, Erin Baughman and Holly Hartman. The sophomore group also includes Kalyn Wingerter who joined the team this fall for football.
The three rookies to the basketball and competitive team are also sophomores. Included in that group are Arien Wright, Taylor gross and Dani Smith. All three just joined the group for the basketball and competition season.
Rounding out the 2010-2011 Basketball and Competition Team is freshman, Bethany Williamson. Bethany cheered on the fall football squad, but this will be her first season for high school basketball and competition.
Recently the squad trained with Super Cheer and Dance Association staff trainer Emma Pieper who conducted a 5-hour cheer camp for the CHS Cheerleaders. The November 7 camp helped the cheerleaders learn and fine-tune their 2011 competition routine.
Pieper is a CDA choreographer and instructor and assisted the Yellow Jacket squad to more fully prepare their routine which they will take to competition. Pieper will return to CHS November 20 to conduct another 3-hour clinic for the CHS Cheerleaders.
The Competitive Team will compete December 18 at Pinckneyville and January 16 at Highland. First-year CHS Cheer Coach Rachel Ranta states, "The girls have trained hard and put in a lot of work in a short period of time to prepare both for basketball season and for the two upcoming competitions."
The 2010 CHS Basketball season begins Monday November 29 with the 2010 Murphysboro Invitational Tournament. The Jackets will play two first-round games at Chester High School Colbert Gymnasium, Tuesday November 30 hosting Cleveland and Friday December 3 hosting Gateway Tech. The cheerleaders will begin their cheer season at the Murphysboro Tournament.
Otherwise the cheerleaders will compete at least twice, December 18 at Pinckneyville at January 16 at Highland and they will support the Yellow Jackets Basketball Team at approximately 25 regular-season games.
