Pinckneyville Can Issue Future Burn Bans
</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[The Pinckneyville City Council placed on file for public inspection an amendment to two existing fire prevention ordinances that will allow the fire chief to issue no burn statements.
The amendment calls for a citation for the first offense and citations plus fines for subsequent offenses. The fine will be a minimum of $75 and a maximum of $750.
The weather has been both dry and windy lately, making burning of yard waste hazardous.
In other business, the council:
placed on file for public inspection an amendment to the mowing contract with Hirsch Lawncare Service that agrees to pay $400 per eight-hour day or $50 per hour for pick-up of leaves. Paying a contractor for the work costs about the same as hiring part-time employees and saves on the cost of equipment.
authorized $30 gift certificates for full-time and part-time employees and those who serve on board or committees. The gift certificates will be redeemable at Perry County Market Place or Save-a-Lot.
approved payment of $2,500 from the tourism account to Pinckneyville Community High School for an advertisement in the program of the Duster Thomas Hoops Classic basketball tournament.
discussed a letter sent by Pinckneyville Community High School detailing the upcoming construction of the new school. Ten projects are slated to begin between Feb. 1 and June 1. The projects include reworking Panther Drive-$200,00, bus loading zone and sidewalks-$65,450, sanitary sewer, water and gas-$96,250, storm sewer and detention-$198,000, street and site lighting-$80,000, demolition-$500,585, parking lot and fill-$463,390, retaining wall and fence-$33,000, running track-$490,620 and fencing and landscaping, etc.-$126,450. The letter states that the city's help with any projects would be appreciated.
heard from Carrie Gilliam that Santa Claus will ride through town on a fire truck on Saturday, Dec. 4, following the same route as last year. The Chamber of Commerce will also hold a home tour that day.
