</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[Pinckneyville (District #50) jumped out to a 12-2 lead after one quarter and held on to knock off previously unbeaten District #204 in junior high girls hoops 31-27 last night behind Kaitlyn Goldman's 14 points.
The Lady Tigers were coming off of a 10-day layoff since defeating Elverado on November 18, and showed some rust in the early going of the game, not scoring until Taylor Smith's bucket just before the end of the opening quarter.
The Junior Lady Panthers clinged to a 20-15 halftime lead, but the game was tied at 23-23 heading into the fourth.
Goldman came up empty on her first two attempts in the period, but hit a shot from the post and a pair of free throws down the stretch as PJHS (Dist. #50) tried to fight off the pressure defense of #204.
The Tigers (15-1) couldn't find their shooting touch, however, failing to connect on a field goal and scoring only from the free throw line in the last seven minutes.
Maddie Jones added 8 points for PJHS (Dist. #50), Raygan Yates had 5, Keelyn Stein 4.
Dist. #204 was led by Smith's 9 points, Sophie Keith and Megan Bagley each finished with 7, Torrie Carter and Maggie Sanders 2.
PJHS (8-5, 3-3) hits the road on Tuesday night, traveling to Benton for a 6:30 p.m. tip-off. Pinckneyville (Dist. #204) is at Steeleville (6:00 p.m. - JV).
