BASKETBALL: Junior High Roundup (12-02)
</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[The DuQuoin Middle School Girls Basketball team (eighth grade) got off to a very slow start on Thursday evening against Trico. The score at the end of the first quarter was Trico 8 and DuQuoin 6. At half-time the score was 14-8 Trico, and that was as close as DuQuoin could get. The final score was Trico 32-19.
Trico managed to pull away from DuQuoin in the second quarter out scoring DuQuoin 6-2. In the third quarter, Trico out scored DuQuoin 12-4. Trico held the lead throughout the game. DuQuoin had difficulty getting the ball in the hoop scoring only 6 field goals in the game. Free throw shooting wasn't much better hitting only seven of those. Trico was a slightly taller team and very physical under the basket. DuQuoin had trouble defending the taller players from Trico.
The leading scorer for DuQuoin was Marisa Ferguson with 8. Carissa Graham had 4 points, Jacqueline Harsy 3, Amanda Atteberry 2, and Jessica Harsy 2. Tiamera Hamilton also saw action for the Warriors.
Carissa Graham had a good defensive game for the Warriors as well as being the point guard on offense.
Coach Debbie Ritter thought, "we played a much better game against Trico this time that we did last time. Our shots were just not falling tonight." Coach Ritter had to coach three games because Assistant Coach Chuck Montgomery was out with the flu. There was a "C" game for sixth graders at 5:30 prior to the seventh grade game, but no score was kept.
The eighth grade's record overall is now 6-8.
The seventh grade had a more successful night They won the game in a very close one over Trico. The final score was 19-18 DuQuoin. The leading scorer was Alaina Caldwell with 8 points. She was followed by Andrea Morgan with 7 and Timbra Mansfield with 4 points. Other Warriors seeing action were Brittany Clark, Sydney Lewis, Emily Born, and Kat Robison. Brittany Clark played an outstanding defensive game for the Warriors. The seventh grade record is 4-6 overall.
On Monday, December 6, DMS has a home game with Murphysboro. Game time is 5:30 with a "C" game for the sixth graders. The seventh grade tips off at 6:00 followed by the eighth grade game.
<u>Creal Springs too much for TSB girls</u>
Dalis Hubler scored 16 points but it wasn't enough for Tamaroa-St. Bruno to overcome a 25-13 halftime deficit as the Lady Indians fell 42-31 against Creal Springs last night.
Kaylee Rulevish added 6 points for TSB, Chelsey Moss 4, Tamara Williams 2, Natalie Dudek 2, and Cassie Andrade 1. Rulevish led the way with 10 rebounds, Williams had 8.
The Lady Indians posted a win on Wednesday night, however, taking care of Desoto 30-18 behind 11 points and 9 rebounds from Rulevish.
Moss chipped in with 7 points, Hubler and Andrade each had 6, Delaney Bandy 2. Williams finished with a team-high 10 rebounds.
Tamaroa-St. Bruno (7-12, 2-3) is back in action Monday when they host Okawville at St. Bruno in Pinckneyville (6:00 p.m. - JV).
<u>PJHS boys even record with win over Sparta</u>
Pinckneyville Junior High School (District #50) evened their record at 6-6 last night, beating Sparta 48-35 as three Junior Panthers finished in double figures.
Trent Hicks led PJHS with 11 points, Austin Ferguson and Dalton Gant each had 10, Jacob Downard 9, Zach Hagene 4, Stephano Euells 2, Alec Brand 2.
On Wednesday, Ferguson scored 24 points and PJHS (District #50) came back from down seven points at halftime to pummel Sesser-Valier 57-38 at home.
Gant added 11 points for the Junior Panthers, Hagene 8, Euells 6, Hicks 4, Brand 2 and Ryan Harris 2.
Pinckneyville (Dist. #50) is at Chester on Tuesday (6:00 p.m. - JV).
