Lady Warriors win two

Steeleville's girls basketball team picked up two exciting wins last week. On Monday they defeated Chester by a score of 39-34. Chester looked to be on their way to an easy win when they jumped out to a 10-4 lead in the first quarter, bur Steeleville came back with a 16-6 run in the second.
Mackenzie Doeding was the leading scorer for Steeleville with 14 points, Natalie Ruebke had nine, Jill Winkelman and Morgan Lindner each put in five, Alex Gale had four and Kassee Theobald added two.
Wednesday's action saw Steeleville pick up a Cahokia Conference victory over New Athens by a score of 40-36. The Lady Warriors opened the game with a 10-0 run, but New Athens settled down and slowly fought their way back into the contest. New Athens held a one-point lead early in the fourth, but Steeleville went on a 7-2 run in the closing minutes to gain the win.
Ruebke turned in a great effort and finished as the leading scorer with 18 points, Gale had 12, Winkelman scored eight and Lindner added two. Winkelman was the leading rebounder with 12. The leading scorer for New Athens was Tricia Juenger with 11 points.
