Steeleville wins three at Trico

On the first night of the Trico Pioneer Invitational the Steeleville Warriors earned a victory over Sparta by a score of 62-61. Steeleville controlled the action for three quarters but they almost let the game get away when Sparta outscored them 21-10 in the fourth.

Colin Smith put in 17 points to lead the Steeleville offense while Coire Reel had 14, Nick Potter and Andrew Pokrzywinski each put in eight, Jacob Combs had seven, Torrey Geberding scored six and Darin Winkelman added two.

Wes Kiner was the leading scorer for Sparta with 19.

Steeleville easily defeated Shawnee on Wednesday by a score of 65-32. Steeleville outscored Shawnee by 7-10 points in each of the four quarters to go to 2-0 in the tournament.

Offensive leaders for the Warriors were Reel with 16 points, Smith with 13, Joey Wittenbrink with 12, Geberding with nine, Pokrzywinski with eight and Potter with five.

Friday&#39;s match up against Trico went to the Pioneers by a score of 61-44. Steeleville was only down by four at halftime and tied the game early in the third, but Trico pulled away with an 11 point run. They continued to put pressure on Steeleville in the fourth and closed out the game with a 20-13 advantage down the stretch.

Reel and Geberding each put in 11 points, Pokrzywinski had 10, Smith scored seven and Wittenbrink added five. Chase Heins was a big part of Trico&#39;s second half runs and finished as their leading scorer with 24 points.

After a loss to Egyptian on Saturday morning, Steeleville moved on to face Red Bud in the evening session. The Warriors wrapped up their part of the tournament with a 63-52 win over the Musketeers. The third quarter proved to be the difference as Steeleville outscored Red Bud 17-7.

Reel was the leading scorer with 18 points, Smith had 16, Geberding put in 15, Pokrzywinski had eight, Winkelman put in four and Potter added two.

Red Bud&#39;s leading scorer was Alex Phegley with 14 points.

After the final game Smith and Pokrzywinski were both named to the All-Tournament Team
