BASKETBALL: Threes are a charm for Lady Panthers
</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[It was raining three pointers in the Pinckneyville High School Gym as the PCHS girls basketball team vanquished DuQuoin 54-35 on Tuesday evening.
The weather outside was very cold, but the Panthers were very hot at the three point line. Pinckneyville made twelve three-point shots during the game. Six were made by Katrina Henson alone. Heather McDaniel had three, Mo Ramsey had two, and Lindsey Winter one. DuQuoin's Jessica Hirsch contributed two three-pointers as well, making a total of 14 for the game.
Pinckneyville took the lead early finishing the first quarter ahead 21-4. DuQuoin outscored Pinckneyville in the second quarter 14-11 to bring the half-time score to 32-18. Pinckneyville came out strong in the third quarter, which ended at 49-25. Pinckneyville was able to put in some substitutes for the fourth quarter, which brought the final score to 54-35.
DuQuoin was led in scoring by Jessica Hirsch with 12. Curry Emling had 7, Rebekah Maddox 6, Ashley Ward 6, Keawna Anders 2, and Shelby Presley 2. DuQuoin's record is 6-3 overall and 1-2 in the conference. Hailey Stewart, Cassidy Rice, and Taylor King also saw action for the Indians.
Coach Shawn File commented that "Pinckneyville shot the lights out tonight. Number twenty had six three pointers--unbelievable. Pinckneyville came out tonight and out worked us. I was pleased with our performance in the second quarter, but we came out in the second half and immediately had three turnovers. That really deflated us. We have to get better and keep working." DuQuoin has a home game on Thursday, December 16, with Nashville. This is another conference game for the Indians.
Pinckneyville was led in scoring by Katrina Henson with 20 points. Taylor Cicardi had 10 points, Heather McDaniel 9, Mo Ramsey 8, Dani Jenkel 4, and Lindsey Winter 3. Emma Opp, Taylor Kuhnert, Tyler Flowers, Haley Simpson, Dani Schoenbacher, and Britney Thomas also saw action for the Panthers. The Panthers were without starting forward Maddy Keith, who was out with migraine headaches.
Pinckneyville's record is 5-4 overall and 2-2 in the conference. Coach Alan Engelhardt was obviously pleased with his team's performance. "Our shooting was pretty good tonight. The perimeter shots (three pointers) were especially good. We were taking good shots. Katrina (Henson) was outstanding! The pressure really helped. DuQuoin's (Jessica) Hirsch is a good player, and we were able to hold her to 12 points."
Pinckneyville also won the Jr. Varsity game 39-16.DuQuoin's scoring was Keawna Anders 4, Taylor King 4, Hailey Stewart 3, Abby Myers 3, and Shelby Presley 2. Bailie Caldwell, Cassidy Rice, Katrina Whitley, Morgan Dennis, and Ashanti Warren also played in the game. DuQuoin's record is 2-3 overall and 1-2 in the conference. The JV is coached by Jason James.
Pinckneyville was led in scoring by Britney Thomas with 9. Lindsey Winter had 5, Bailey Nippe 4, Katelyn Mayer 4, Alexis Anderson 4, Emma Opp 4, Dani Schoenbacher 3, Alyssa Hirsch 2, Haley Simpson 2, and Leah Hopp 2. Haley Szczepanski also got in the game. The J-V Panthers are 4-1 overall, and are coached by Todd Thomas and Sean Patrick.
