Beltz Resigns From Pinckneyville Council to Shoulder Role as Assistant State's Attorney
</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[Pinckneyville Public Safety commissioner Marty Beltz Monday resigned from the Pinckneyville City Council, viewing that role as a conflict of interest after accepting a position as assistant Perry County State's Attorney.
His resignation was effective at the end of Monday's meeting.
State's Attorney David Stanton recently appointed both Beltz and Perry County Emergency Management director David Searby to the roles of assistant state's attorneys.
That reorganization was necessitated by the transfer of assistant state's attorney Jennifer Foutch to the position of Perry County Public Defender.
Beltz said he accepted a position with the Perry County State's Attorney's Office and chose to resign to prevent the potential for or appearance of a conflict of interest. Beltz said he made a recommendation to Mayor Joe Holder as to whom his successor should be, but did not offer a name. Three people--Nathan Kellerman, Kevin Hicks and Jim Schillinger-- have filed petitions to run for Commissioner of Public Health and Safety.
