Intrepid Hospital Board Doesn't Give Up on New Hospital Funding

</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[Pinckneyville Community Hospital has a year-to-date net income of $173,387 and an operating loss of $47,760 including the figures for November 2010 which showed an operating loss of $73,756 and a net loss of $44,004.

Administrator Tom Hudgins said the staff is working on decreasing expenses when activity drops. He attributed the November loss to a combination of lower outpatient revenue and greater physician recruitment expenses.

Despite the less-than-rosy financial picture, PCH is still seeking federal financing for a new facility. Hudgins said he has received the initial information for financing through the USDA.

PNC Bank, which worked with the hospital on the Housing and Urban Development 242 loan guarantee application, is reviewing the USDA requirements and will report back in the next week or so.

HUD turned down PCH 242 application in December.

"We&#39;re not giving up until we&#39;ve exhausted all possibilities," Hudgins said. "Then we&#39;ll go to Plan B."

In other business, the board:

reviewed the progress on electronic medical records. The hospital is in position to show meaningful use by the end of 2011. The government&#39;s deadline is the end of 2012. PCH is also awaiting a rural health clinic report which may help with grant funding for the electronic medical records program.

asked CFO Kara Carson to review audit proposals and check references and report back at the February meeting.

heard that Dr. Melinda Moore will offer podiatry clinics at PCH on Thursdays beginning Feb. 17 and that Dr. Jason Jerabek has begun work at the Family Medical Center.

approved the purchase of an I-Stat point of care analyzer at a cost of $8,849. The new equipment is portable and is paid for with an emergency preparedness grant.

voted to keep the same officers as the previous year: Chairman- John Shotton, Vice Chairman- Roger Smith, Secretary- Leonard Heisner Jr., Assistant Secretary- David Pirsein, Treasurer- Dr. C.W. Roe and Assistant Treasurer- Nelson Rule.
