BASKETBALL: Junior High Roundup (01-06)
</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[A buzzer-beating three pointer capped off a big fourth quarter comeback for Elverado Junior High School's boys as the Falcons stunned Steeleville 51-50 on Tuesday night at EJHS.
"This is a great win for our program and community," said EJHS head basketball coach Zach Schumacher. "Our kids were resilient, and battled to the very end. We had a hard time containing their big men but our guards were able to pick up the slack for us. Everyone here is extremely proud of our kids, and this win against a very good Steeleville team."
Elverado trailed throughout the entire game until late and were down 44-28 heading into the fourth quarter. The Falcons sank five three-pointers in the period, however, and trailed by just two with 1.1 seconds left in the game.
That's when Luke Jones hit the fifth Elverado three of the quarter to give the Falcons the victory and give himself a team-high 23 points. Tyler Funk recorded 10 blocks to lead EJHS.
Ethan Keller added 12 points, Funk 10, Alec Valerius 4 and Brendan Garcia finished with 2.
<u>#204 boys keep winning</u>
Pinckneyville District #204's boys improved to 19-1 on the season with a pair of wins this week, topping St. Johns (Chester) 43-34 on Monday and getting past Ewing 33-29 on Tuesday evening.
In Tuesday's game, Brian Taylor led the way with 17 points for the Tigers, Caleb Dahn added 11 points and 13 rebounds.
District #204 will take part in the Quad County Shootout this Saturday at Herrin against Giant City at 2:30 p.m.
<u>Trico edges PJHS boys</u>
Pinckneyville Junior High School (District #50) slipped to 8-8 (4-3) on Tuesday evening with a slim 52-47 defeat at Trico.
The Junior Panthers led 24-22 at the break but struggled through a third quarter in which they mustered only five points on offense.
Jacob Downard led PJHS with 13 points, Trent Hicks added 12, Zach Hagene 8, Stephano Euells and Dalton Gant each had 6 and Austin Ferguson finished with 2.
PJHS (Dist. #50) returns to action Thursday when they host Du Quoin Middle School (6:00 p.m. - JV).
<u>TSB boys improve to 11-7</u>
Nolan Luke scored 26 points and 5 steals for Tamaroa-St. Bruno as the Indians ran away from Akin 52-34 on the road last night, forcing 26 turnovers and leading by as many as 24 points.
Jordan Grissom added 8 points, Brock Bullar and Robbie Borchelt each had 6, Tyler Iubelt 4, and Adam Banach 2. Banach led the way in rebounding with 6, Bullar and Grissom each had 4 boards.
Akin won the J-V contest 48-24, dropping the seventh grade Indians to 3-10 for the season. Kyle Luke and Evan Williams each had 8 points ifor TSB.
The Indians play again on Thursday night when they host Unity Christian at Tamaroa Community Center (JV - 6:00 p.m.), then it's off to the Quad County Conference Shootout this Saturday where the varsity squad faces the same Unity Christian team at 11:30 a.m.
