BASKETBALL: Junior High Roundup (01-10)
</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[Pinckneyville District #204's girls' basketball squad knocked off Giant City 24-16 at Herrin High School on Saturday to wrap up their regular season with a 21-4 record and a Quad County Conference championship.
After a slow start and leading 4-2 at the end of the first quarter, #204 gradually pulled away and never trailed in the game.
Taylor Smith led the Tigers with 9 points (5-of-6 from the free throw line), Sophie Keith added 7 points, Megan Bagley 6 and Caitie Opp 2.
Smith, Bagley and Keith were each honored by being named to the Quad County All-Conference team for this season.
Coach Collin Hirsch's Tigers now enter Region 3 Regional play in Class S, receiving a first round bye and meeting the winner of Tuesday's Tamaroa-St. Bruno and Ashley matchup on Saturday at 6:00 p.m. at Pinckneyville Dist. #204 school.
<u>TSB boys repeat win over Unity Christian</u>
Tamaroa-St. Bruno's boys knocked off Unity Christian for the second time in just three days on Saturday, winning 48-29 at the Quad County Conference Shoot-out at Herrin High School.
Jordan Grissom had 14 points to carry TSB, Nolan Luke led the way with 9 rebounds and also finished in double figures in scoring with 11 points.
Robbie Borchelt and Adam Banach each finished with 6 points, Tyler Iubelt 4, Brock Bullar 3, Cole Bigham and Jackson Brand 2.
Luke and Grissom were named to the Quad County All-Conference team for their efforts this season with the Indians.
TSB takes on Waltonville tomorrow on the road (6:00 p.m. - JV) before hosting Trinity Lutheran Hoffman on Thursday at St. Bruno (6:00 p.m. - JV).
<u>Schedule revised for Region III Class "L" girls Trico Regional</u>
Originally scheduled for Thursday, January 13, the two semifinal games in the Region III, Class "L" Trico Girls Junior High Basketball Regional will now take place on Wednesday, January 12 instead.
Du Quoin Middle School meets Murhpysboro Middle School at 6:00 p.m. followed by Trico Junior High School taking on Chester Grade School around 7:45 p.m.
The championship of the Regional will remain as scheduled for Saturday, January 15 at 2:00 p.m.
