BASKETBALL: Indian freshmen top PCHS, Panther sophs return favor

</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[The DuQuoin High School freshmen Basketball Team took on Perry County Rival Pinckneyville at home on Monday evening. The Indians defeated the Panthers in a very close game 46-44. The Indians&#39; record is now 3-7. The Panthers are 11-6.

DuQuoin led at the end of the first quarter 8-5. Pinckneyville came on strong in the second quarter and led at the half 24-21. The third quarter ended with Pinckneyville ahead 32-31, but DuQuoin pulled out the win in the fourth quarter 46-44.

The Indians were led in scoring by Daulton Bigham with 18 and Spencer Cook with 17. Both Indians had a very good night. Ikenya Margrum scored 5, Camdon Mercier 2, Camden Youngman 2, and Kody Hess 2. The Freshmen Indians are coached by Derek Beard.

The Panthers were led in scoring by Justyn Rushing with 13 points. Chase Lazenby scored 9, Brayden Cowley 6, Ky Hamilton 6, Dalton Bathon 4, Lucas Carter 4, and Colten Nelson 2. Others seeing action for Pinckneyville were Zach Hester, Nick Bauersachs, and Henry Dudek. The Freshmen Panthers are coached by Ryan Bruns.

The DuQuoin Sophomores were not so fortunate. Pinckneyville defeated DuQuoin 68-54. Pinckneyville led from the very beginning of the game. At the end of the first quarter it was 17-9 Pinckneyville. Pinckneyville had a big cushion at the half 41-20. The third quarter had Pinckneyville leading 59-35, and the final score was 68-54.

The Indians were led by Brenden Fred with 19 points. Fred had a good night especially from the three point line. Daulton Beltz had 15 points, Dalton Donaghue 9, Austin Mapps, 5, Spencer Cook 2, Ikenya Margrum 2, Camden Youngman 2, and Camdon Mercier 2. Jordan Graham, Daulton Bigham and Kody Hess also saw action for the Indians. Their record is 1-2, and they are coached by Tyler Krone.

The Sophomore Panthers&#39; record is 4-5. They are coached by Nolan Kellerman. Chris Priebe scored 14 points, and Dylan Hardin scored 13 points. Luke Chapman had 9 points, Zach Phillips 7, Brandon Edwards 6, Daulton Hubler 6, Chaz Ruffino 5, Kelton Lively 2, Luke Miller 2, Sterling Bejma 2, and Tyler Harmon 2. Tyler Hirsch and Phillip Catt also had playing time for the Panthers.

The DuQuoin freshmen and sophomores will play on Wednesday at Murphysboro, and on Thursday they travel to Nashville. PCHS&#39;s freshmen and sophomore Panthers are at Carbondale on Wednesday evening.
