Intrepid Burglar Tests Tamaroa Residents
</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[There have been several break-ins in the northeast corner of Tamaroa over the past several months. The latest break-in occurred Friday evening at the Mike Davis residence.
Burglars jacked up a 1992 Lincoln that was parked in the driveway and removed all four tires. Tools and equipment were also stolen from Davis' garage.
Other homes in the area have had a four-wheeler, a motorcycle, a welder, bicycles, tools, hardware and gasoline stolen.
Sheriff Keith Kellerman said his office is working with Jackson County to determine if any of the stolen goods recovered from a Jackson County pawn shop belong to residents of Perry County.
Identification is difficult, however. Kellerman suggested people takes pictures of their valuables and/or write down the serial numbers. Keep the pictures separate from the valuables.
Other safety tips include lighting your property and locking everything.
"Unfortunately you have to lock everything," Kellerman said. "Even then if someone wants in, they'll get in."
The sheriff encourages people to keep an eye on their own property and their neighbors', report suspicious activity and make note of license plate numbers and descriptions of suspicious vehicles in the area.
As for the items stolen from Tamaroa, some may be recovered once the thieves are caught. Some could be gone for good.
Tamaroa does not have its own police force and must rely on the Perry County Sheriff's Department. The village passed a non-home rule tax in April 2009. Voters were told those funds would be used to hire a police officer for the village.
