An emergency shelter has been opened in Sparta and another temporary shelter is
in operation in Coulterville.
Both towns were the hardest hit by Tuesday's storm, resulting in wide-spread
power outages.
The Sparta Senior Citizens Center has been designated as Sparta's shelter.
Coulterville officials have designated the village hall as a temporary shelter while
another site is being readied. That other site should be ready to accept storm
victims sometime Wednesday morning.
At this time, those are the only two municipalities in Randolph County (Illinois)
where shelters are needed, though sporadic power outages in other parts of the
county continue to be reported. The towns and locations of other shelters will be
announced if and when they are opened.
