Lochhead signs to play basketball at Lindenwood

Zach Lochhead, a Chester High School senior, has signed a letter of intent to continue his basketball career upon graduation from CHS at Lindenwood University in Belleville, Illinois.

Lochhead and his parents, Tim and Wendy Lochhead, traveled to Lindenwood Saturday February 5 at 12:00 noon for the official signing of his letter of intent.

Lochhead played AAU Select Basketball for the JETS for three seasons under Coach Dana Morgan. AAU Basketball added playing time to his resume and introduced him to a higher level of competition. This greatly helped him to prepare for both high school and college basketball.

At CHS Lochhead is a quality student who maintains a 3.5 grade point average. Throughout his high school career he has been well-rounded playing in the CHS Marching Band, Pep Band and Concert Band. He also sings and dances in the select CHS Swing Choir Sound Affect.

Lochhead has also been an actor in CHS stage productions and musicals. He has been on the Academic Honor Roll all four years and is in the Top-10 in his graduating class of 2011. He is further a member of the CHS National Honor Society.

Athletics has always been a keen interest for Lochhead. He was named the Southern Illinoisan Newspaper Athlete of the Week in 2010. He holds the Chester High School record for most three-pointers in one game with nine treys.

During his senior year Mr. Lochhead has had high scoring games of 30, 34 and 43 points. He is currently a Captain on the Yellow Jackets squad and has played basketball all four years. This year he is averaging 22 points per game for the Yellow Jackets.

Last year he was selected as a member of the 2009-2010 All-South Basketball Team. He played in the Academic/Basketball Showcase Camp in Chicago, Illinois and made the All-Tournament Team of the 8th Annual "Ernie Bozarth" Memorial Murphysboro Tournament. He was the "Leading Scorer" in that event.

In the 2010 Cobden Shoot-Out Lochhead was the "Most Valuable Player" and event's "Leading Scorer". At the 2011 Chester High School Invitational Tournament (CIT) Mr. Lochhead was named to the All-Tournament Team for the second-year-in-a-row and he was the tournament's "Leading Scorer".

Finally Lochhead was the "Leading Scorer" of the 2010 Sesser Holiday Tournament and he was an All-Tournament Team Selection.

Throughout his high school career at Chester High School Lochhead has been very active in a wide variety of scholastic activities in addition to a variety of sports including football, basketball and baseball. He has lettered in all three sports and has been a model student among his peers.

Upon graduation May 29 Lochhead will begin making the transition to college level activities at Lindenwood University at the Belleville Campus. At Lindenwood he will play basketball for Coach Scott Spinner.
