BASKETBALL: Steeleville handles Elverado
</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[In a late addition to the schedule, Elverado hosted Steeleville in boys basketball action on Monday night with the Warriors taking home a 76-53 victory over the Falcons.
Steeleville jumped on Elverado quick and fast, outscoring the Falcons 22-7 in the first period behind 8 points from Coire Reel and another 6 from Nick Potter coming on a pair of three-pointers.
The Warriors added to their lead in the second and were up 39-20 at the half, but the Falcons refused to fold their tent and mounted a charge after the break.
Six points from Daltun Hasty and back-to-back buckets by Casey Hicks helped cut Steeleville's advantage to 50-38, but the Warriors rattled off five straight points in the final minute of the third period to put an end to the Elverado rally.
Sean Harrison led all scorers with 15 points, Hasty added a dozen. Hicks, Kyle Whittington and Josh Sarensen each finished with 6, Bryce Mathis 4, and Ben Kempfer and Kody Ellet 2. Reel led the Warriors with 14 points, Colin Smith added 13.
The Falcons (4-15) host Shawnee High School (3-17) on Tuesday night before senior night on Friday against Trico (25-2).
