Steeleville's girls basketball squad wrapped up their season with a tough loss to Shawnee in last week's regional semifinals. The teams battled back and forth for much of the game. Shawnee put together a little run that saw them go up by five points in the middle of the second quarter but Steeleville fought back and found themselves ahead by two at the end of three. However, the last quarter belonged to the Lady Reds as they outscored the Warriors 20-5 to win the game 52-39.

Alex Gale and Natalie Ruebke each put in 13 points to lead the offense while Morgan Lindner scored seven, Jill Winkelman had five and Kassee Theobald added one. Winkelman and Lindner were the leading rebounders for Steeleville. Kaylee Boston was Shawnee's leading scorer with 19 points.

While the season may be over for the team, Winkelman remains alive in the Three-Point Showdown. Before Thursday's regional championship game she made seven shots, which was good enough for a tie for second place. She advances to the sectional at Carrolton along with Katelyn Thies of Trico and Taylor Ellis and Boston of Shawnee.
