Edward Kania
</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[Edward Kania, 85, of Du Bois, IL, passed away at 1:50 a.m., Monday, Feb. 14, 2011 at the Pinckneyville Community Hospital.
Edward was born to Charles Sr. and Louise (Nawrocki) Kania on March 25, 1925 in Du Bois, Ill.
He married Pauline Kubicki on Oct. 12, 1945 at the St. Charles Catholic Church in Du Bois.
He is survived by his wife of 65 years Pauline Kania of Du Bois. To this union were born four children- Marilyn (Dennis) Kellerman of Pinckneyville, Ill., Daniel (Bonnie) Kania of Walton, Ky., Doris Maulding (fiance Steve Hodge) of McLeansboro, Ill. and John (Janet) Kania of Ashley, Ill., grandchildren- Kevin (Amanda) Kellerman, Kimberly Kellerman, Charles (Lisa) Kania, Nicholas (Lindsay) Kostecki, Shawn Kostecki and Holly, Hannah and Haylee Kania, one great grandson- Oliver Kellerman.
Survivors also include two sisters- Lucille Barczewski of Du Bois, Mary Lou (Raymond) Ratajczyk of Columbia, Ill., brothers- Marion (Arlene) Kania of Nashville, Ill., Joe (Eleanor) Kania of Belleville, Ill., Eugene Kania of Nashville, Ill., sister-in-law- Joann Kania of Du Bois, brother-in-law and sister-in-law- Edward and Agnes Kubicki of Mt. Vernon, Ill. and several nieces and nephews.
Edward was preceded in death by his parents, one grandson- James Kania and two brothers- Leonard and Charles Kania Jr.
Edward was a life long member of St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church in Du Bois, serving on many boards and committees. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus Du Bois Council # 4476 and also a member of the 4th Degree Knights of Columbus. He served many years on the Du Bois Village Board.
He was a U.S. Postal Worker, spending his early years working on the Railroad Mail cars and later retiring from the Centralia Post Office. He loved playing cards, fishing and family get togethers.
He was a US Navy Veteran serving in World War II.
He will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Mass of Christian Burial was at 10:00 a.m., Friday, Feb. 18, 2011 at the St. Charles Catholic Church in Du Bois with Fr. Oliver Nwachukwu officiating.
Friends called from 5 to 8 p.m., Thursday at the St. Charles Catholic Church in Du Bois and from 9 a.m. until time service at church on Friday.
The Rosary was prayed at 8 p.m. Thursday at the church.
Burial was in the St. Charles Cemetery at Du Bois.
Friends may make memorials to the St. Charles Catholic Church Renovation Fund and will be accepted at the church or funeral home
