BASEBALL: Falcons shut down by Egyptian

After Egyptian jumped ahead 2-0 on a two-run homer in the first, Bryce Mathis walked to lead off the home half of the inning, then Troy Stewart followed with another free pass. The next three batters all struck out, however, and both runners were stranded.
The Falcons had a bases-loaded, one-out situation in the fourth after walks to Collin Hester, Matt Miller and Eli Fennell, but again strikeouts brought the potential rally to a halt.
Hester doubled to lead off the sixth, then Miller singled but was caught trying to steal second base. Hester remained at third after a another pair of strikeouts ended the game.
Brian McClanahan threw the first five innings for the Falcons, allowing 5 hits, walking 8 and striking out 11. Matt Miller came in to clean up in the sixth.
Hester (2B), Miller and Fennell had Elverado's three hits on the afternoon.
The Falcons are at home again on Wednesday to face Sparta (4:30 p.m.).
