SOFTBALL: Lady Falcons explode for 17-1 win

</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[Elverado started off their 2011 softball season with a bang on Monday, pounding Egyptian 17-1 with eight different players scoring runs.

After a scoreless top of the first, Sami Hicks and Chelsea Cochran had back-to-back singles to start the Lady Falcons&#39; half of the inning, then Kelsi Teague sacrificed the runners over. Hicks scored on a passed ball, then Corrine Wilson walked and Erika Will was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Meghann Trammel and Abigail Grammer followed with RBI singles, and Elverado took a 4-0 lead into the second inning.

It was in the bottom of the second that the Lady Falcons did their most severe damage, breaking loose for 12 runs and sending 16 hitters to the plate.

Hicks, Cochran, Wilson, and Lacey Qualls all singled the first time up in the second, with Qualls 2-RBI base hit making it 9-0 Falcons.

Hicks doubled to drive in two more, then Will and Trammel also slugged 2-RBI hits in the inning as Elveardo led 16-0 after two.

Teague scored after walking in the fourth for the last Lady Falcons&#39; run, and meanwhile Wilson was handling Egyptian in the pitching circle, going all five innings for the victory. Wilson allowed 6 hits, 1 run and struck out 6.

Hicks finished 3-for-4 at the plate with a double, 2 RBI and 3 runs scored. Cochran (2-4, 3 R), Will (2-3, 2B, 3 R, 3 RBI) and Trammel (2-3, R, 4 RBI) each collected two hits each. Wilson (1-3, BB, 2 R, RBI), Qualls (1-3, BB, R, 2 RBI) and Grammer (1-4, R, RBI) had the other hits for EHS. Teague had a sacrifice, 3 walks and 3 runs scored.

Elverado (1-0) takes on Sparta at home this Wednesday (4:30 p.m.).
