VOLLEYBALL: St. Bruno stopped by St. Andrew
</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[In Friday night's SIJHSAA Class S Region 3 Volleyball Regional at District #204 school in Pinckneyville, fourth-seeded St. Andrew knocked off second-seeded St. Bruno in the Championship to advance into this week's state tournament.
The Falcons had their chances, leading the first set 24-21 before allowing five straight points from the Saints as St. Andrew took a 1-0 lead. St. Bruno dominated the second set 25-16, but couldn't complete the comeback in the tie-breaker, falling 15-9.
Mady Epplin led the Lady Falcons with 10 service points, Kaylee Rulevish and Mara Kuberski each had 6, Afton Robinson 5 and Jordyn Bullar 4. Rulevish and Kuberski each had one kill in the game.
St. Bruno had advanced into the championship by defeating the third seed, Desoto, 25-15, 23-25, 15-11 in the evening's second semifinal match.
Epplin also had the team-high in service points in the semifinal, scoring 15 including 10 in the opening set. Rulevish had 6, Bullar and Natalie Dudek 4, Kuberski and Dalis Hubler 3 and Afton Robinson 2. Rulevish led the way with 8 kills, Bullar added 2, Dudek 1. Olivia Chapman also saw playing time for St. Bruno.
The Falcons, coached by Katie Shaneyfelt finished their 2011 season with a record of 14-4 while their junior-varsity squad ended up 13-1.
