This three day event has been expanded to provide Illinois teens new opportunities to explore the University of Illinois campus; study potential careers or leadership skills; and meet youth from across the state. The Illini Summer Academies are scheduled for June 27-29, 2011 at the University of Illinois Champaign/Urbana campus. Each academy will offer 15 hours of interactive activities and study in a specific field of interest. There will be eight academies this summer including Aerospace Engineering, Agricultural & Biological Engineering, Art & Design, Crop Sciences, Food Science & Human Nutrition, Leadership, Physics, and Veterinary Medicine. Youth must be 14 to 18 years of age (inclusive) by September 1, 2011 in order to participate. Some academies do place additional age restrictions on their programs. Each academy has set their own registration fee according to the activities and experiences they are providing. All fees also include a 2-night stay in University Housing (2 delegates per room); six meals; programming materials; transportation when needed, and special activity insurance. A limited number of scholarships for 4-H members are available through the Illinois 4-H Foundation. Early bird registration at a reduced rate is due April 15. Final registration closes May 25. Registration information is available at the University of Illinois Extension Office in Randolph County at 443-4364.
