Donald A. Barnett, Sr.
</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[Donald A. Barnett, Sr., 71, of Du Quoin, passed away at 9:25 a.m., Friday, March 4, 2011 at the Memorial Hospital of Carbondale.
Donald had managed a Gulf Service Station in Du Quoin and worked for Can-D-Vend in Du Quoin for several years. He had also worked as a supervisor at General Cable for 33 years. Don was a member of the Matthews Baptist Church at Pinckneyville. He was a member of the North American Hunting Club. He loved hunting, fishing and four wheeling. Don loved his family and his grandkids. Donald proudly served his country in the U.S. Air Force.
He was born March 25, 1939 at Middlesboro, Ky. the son of Bascum T. and Nellie Beatrice (Partin) Barnett, Sr.
Donald married Joan Ridgeway on October 1, 1960 at Du Quoin and she survives.
He is survived by his wife of Du Quoin, children- Donald A. Barnett, Jr. and wife Janine of Du Quoin, Anita Prater and husband Clyde of Dowell, Richard Barnett and wife Kathy of Elkville, Steven Barnett and wife Samantha of Du Quoin, Remko van Donselaar of Den Hague, Netherlands, two brothers- William Kenneth Barnett of Michigan, Robert Earl Barnett of Pittsburg, Ill., sister- Christine Riggen of Michigan, 14 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren, two special aunts- Nanilee Chadwick and husband Robert and Lucille Shelton and husband Larry, many nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers and two sisters.
Funeral services were at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, March 8, 2011 at the Matthews Baptist Church at Pinckneyville with Rev. Tom Stearns officiating.
Friends called from 5 to 8 p.m., Monday at the Searby Funeral Home in Du Quoin and from 9:30 a.m. until time of service at the church on Tuesday.
Burial was in the Sunset Memorial Park at Du Quoin.
Military graveside rites were conducted by the Du Quoin VFW and American Legion.
Friends may make memorials to the Matthews Baptist Church or Cardinal Glennon Childrens Hospital and will be accepted at the funeral home.
