Leland L. Bishop
</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[Leland L. "Doc" Bishop, age 87, of 215 N. Irvine in Kirkwood, formerly of Canton and Lewistown, passed away at 11:20 a.m. Friday, March 11, 2011 in Galesburg.
He was born Nov. 10, 1923 at Bluff City, a son of Jesse and Lena (Kohenberger) Bishop. He married Ruby Hopkins on June 21, 1947 at Rushville. She survives. Also surviving are one daughter, Linda (Charles) Michael of Monmouth; two sons, Andy (Kay) Bishop of Du Quoin and Gary (Sueanne) Bishop of Ash Grove, Mo.; three grandchildren; six step grandchildren; four great grandchildren; five step great grandchildren; three brothers and five sisters. He was preceded in death by his parents; five brothers and three sisters.
Leland worked for CIPS as a lineman and retired in 1979 after 30 years of service. He served in the U.S. Navy as a gunner's mate 3c during WW II. Leland was a member of the West Minster Presbyterian Church of Kirkwood. He was also a member of the Canton American Legion and the Canton Morning Star Lodge 734. He enjoyed reading, hunting, fishing, gardening, mushrooming and camping.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, March 15, 2011 at the Henry-Lange Memorial Home in Lewistown with Pam Moore officiating. Burial was in Maryville Cemetery at Bryant, where military services were conducted by Lewistown VFW Post 5001 and Lewistown American Legion Post 1. Visitation was held one hour prior to services at the memorial home.
