VOLLEYBALL: O'Fallon Fulton eliminates Warriors
</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[The DuQuoin Middle School Volleyball Team's season came to an end on Saturday, March 26, at Herrin High School during the first match of the Class L State Tournament at the hands of O'Fallon Fulton Middle School. DuQuoin and O'Fallon had the last game of the morning session. Massac County, Carlyle, and Waterloo had already "punched their tickets" for the semi-finals later that afternoon. DuQuoin got off to a very slow start and never quite seemed to catch up to O'Fallon.
DuQuoin lost the first game 25-22 and the second game 25-19. O'Fallon took the match at 2-0 to advance to the afternoon semi-finals and the opportunity to play Waterloo.
DuQuoin ended their season with a 19-8-1 record. Individual statistics were: Amanda Atteberry had 2 digs, was 6-6 at the serving line scoring 2 points with an ace. Carissa Graham had 1 dig, 8 assists, was 8-9 at the line scoring 5 points with 2 aces. Amber Williams had 4 digs, 1 assist, was 5-5 at the line scoring 2 points. Jacqueline Harsy had 3 digs. Hope Fenton had 2 digs and 4 kills. Shelby Simmons was 7-8 at the line scoring 4 points with an ace. Alaina Caldwell had 1 dig, was 9-10 at the line scoring 6 points with two aces. Sydney Lewis was 1-3 at the line scoring 1 point. Other members of the team are: Dayja Raysby, Jessica Harsy, Hannah Werner, Brittany Clark, Abigail Vancil, Sydney Valier, and Taylor Gates.
Coach Isaac Miller was obviously disappointed because he felt that DuQuoin did not play their best match on Saturday. "But sometimes that is the way it goes? Today just wasn't our day. It doesn't take away from the fact that we were able to win 19 matches during the season and the regional. I am proud of our girls accomplishments. I look forward to coaching the eighth graders when they get to high school next year."
Coach Isaac Miller's disappointment might have been diminished by the fact that Massac County went on to win the State Title in Class L later in the day. His brother, Zach, is the Coach of Massac County. Father Paul Miller assisted both teams during the season, regional, and State matches. During the season, DuQuoin and Massac Co. played each other and each won a match on their home court. Carlyle beat O'Fallon Fulton for third place in the tournament. Carlyle finished second to Massac losing to them 25-8 and 25-20. Congratulations to Massac County on their State Title and congratulations to the DuQuoin Warriors on a "super" season.
