Betty Mae Swallers
</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[Betty Mae Swallers, 76, of Du Quoin, passed away at 5:50 p.m., Tuesday, March 29, 2011 at the Memorial Hospital of Carbondale.
Betty had been a homemaker. She was of the Protestant faith.
She was born Feb. 4, 1935 at Du Quoin, Ill., the daughter of Claude and Violet (McClanahan) Russell.
She married Bobby G. Swallers on May 23, 1953 at Du Quoin and he survives.
She is survived by her husband of Du Quoin, two sons - Rickie Swallers of Du Quoin and Roddie Swallers of Buckner, two daughters - Robin Turrell and husband Greg of Kankakee, Ill. and Monica Rocha of Chebanse, Ill., six grandchildren - Heather, Shane, Brant, Matthew, Nathan and Katie and five great grandchildren - Zack, Kiara, Brooklyn, Carley and Rachel.
She was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters and four brothers.
Funeral services were at 11:00 a.m., Friday, April 1, 2011 at the Searby Funeral Home in Du Quoin with Rev. Joe Wagner officiating.
Friends called from 5 to 8 p.m., Thursday at the Searby Funeral Home in Du Quoin.
Burial was in the Old Du Quoin Cemetery at Du Quoin.
Friends may make memorials to the St. Jude Children's Research Hospital and will be accepted at the funeral home.
