Dr. Kiehna to run for Randolph County Board
</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[Dr. Marc L. Kiehna, Regional Superintendent of Schools for Monroe and Randolph counties, has announced he is a 2012 candidate for the Randolph County Board of Commissioners. Kiehna, a Republican, lives in Steeleville.
Dr. Kiehna announced his candidacy at the Randolph County GOP dinner in Chester on Saturday evening, where he said, "After 35 years in education I would like to retire as Regional Superintendent of Schools in December of 2012 and continue to serve the citizens as a member of the Randolph County Board. I plan to bring the same passion for excellence and a strong work ethic to the county board."
Having been elected three times to head the bi-county education office, Kiehna has established himself as a respected leader in the community. In his tenure Dr. Kiehna served as President of the Illinois Association of Regional Superintendents of Schools, participated on statewide taskforces, testified on educational issues in front of the state legislature, secured federal and state grant dollars to improve instruction and demonstrated a hands-on approach while working with the districts and agencies in the counties.
Kiehna has a Bachelor's degree in Business Teacher Education, a Master's degree in Guidance and Educational Psychology, and a Ph.D. in Educational Leadership. He has also been a high school business teacher, K-12 guidance counselor, vocal music teacher and high school principal.
Dr. Kiehna is also very active in his community. He serves Randolph County as a member of the Solid Waste Committee and attends Peace Lutheran Church in Steeleville, where he directs the adult choir and serves as an assisting minister. He chaired the writing team and currently serves as president of the Wartburg Parish. Kiehna serves as a member of the Randolph County Human Service Center Board and is a charter member of the Red Bud Rotary Club. Kiehna's wife, Susan, works in the Trico school district as a speech and language pathologist. They have two daughters, Lauren, who is a doctoral student at the University of Kansas, and Megan, who will graduate from the Savannah College of Art and Design in June.
