Pinckneyville Posts Surplus Budget
</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[The Pinckneyville City Council placed on file for public inspection the proposed budget for the 2011-12 fiscal year. A public hearing has been scheduled for 7:15 p.m. on April 25, immediately before the next regular meeting.
The budget projects a balance on hand of $428,000 and revenue of $2,320,525, bringing the total available funds to $2,748,525. Expenses are estimated at $2,667,040, leaving a surplus of $61,485.
Treasurer Rick Reese reported that march was a good month for the city. The State made two utility payments. The gas bill is $138,850 and is due April 20.
In other business, the Council:
passed a resolution authorizing a memorandum agreement with Big Cat Motors to purchase 1.5 acres of ground northwest of McDaniel's Furniture. Big Cat will put up a building which they plan to rent to three businesses.
heard from Economic Development Coordinator Carrie Gilliam that residents may safely dispose of unused prescription medication between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. on Saturday, April 30 at the City Hall parking lot. Clean-up day is April 16.
heard from Mayor Joe Holder that the design grant work for a new wastewater treatment plant is not finished. It should be presented to the Council in May. The design grant is a key part of the comprehensive plan.
heard from Commissioner David Stone that he will do more research before addressing the issue of raises for management employees.
authorized the installation of an additional street light near 609 S. Douglas St. in the alley near the Lion's Club.
approved a pay request for $97,312 to BHM&G for work on moving the gas line near White Walnut Road. The state will reimburse the city for more than 60 percent of the cost of the project.
passed the resolution authorizing the 2011 Motor Fuel Tax Program, which was placed on file at the previous meeting.
passed the resolution approving an extension of the park maintenance agreement with James Boyd, which was placed on file at the previous meeting.
