Local fire departments have busy weekend

On Wednesday, April 6 the Chester Fire Department was called to 5050 Smith Lane in Ellis Grove for a reported woods fire. According to Chester Fire Department spokesman and 1st Chief Marty Bert, a neighbor called 911 after they looked out their window and saw flames. According to Bert a stump was left burning and the wind blew the embers into the woods creating the fire.
Chester Fire Department was on the scene for about one hour.
Chester Fire Department, Ellis Grove Fire Department assisted at the scene, while Evansville Fire Department was called to Ellis Grove Fire Department for standby.
Sunday, April 10
At approximately noon on Sunday, April 10 the Chester Fire Department was called to the Gwin Apartments for a report of a stove fire. The incident occurred on the 2nd floor, apt. 212.
"It appeared to be a stove fire, and the unit had smoke damage," stated 1st Chief Marty Bert.
The fire department was on scene for approximately 1 hour.
"The department was back on scene at the apartment complex on Monday morning, for what appeared to be a false alarm due to the storm.
Friday, April 8
The Chester Fire Department responded to a car fire at the Rick Fricke residence on Pleasant Ridge Road on?Friday, April 8.
"The firemen had to flip the car over to get the fire out," stated Bert. "They were on scene for 2 hours.
Sunday, April 10
The Chester Fire Department responded to a fire on Mill?Creek Road at a check station at Turkey Bluffs in between Chester and Rockwood.
"Chester, Ellis Grove and Ellis Grove Fire Departments were on scene from 8:30 p.m. to 11:00 p.m." stated Bert. "We are not sure how the fire started. The fire burned several acres. " he added.
