</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[The rain on Monday saturated the field at Lion's so that DuQuoin High School Softball could not play on it against Anna-Jonesboro on Tuesday. So a substitute game was quickly found with Trico at Trico. DuQuoin beat Trico very decisively in five innings with a score of 11-1.
DuQuoin came out strong scoring 3 runs in the first inning and eight in the second. They did not score in the next three innings. Trico scored their one run in the first; it was unearned.
Cassidy Rice was the winning pitcher for DuQuoin raising her record to 10-2. She pitched all five innings allowing one unearned run, on one hit, had one walk, and 8 strikeouts.
DuQuoin tallied ten hits. Kelsey Toler was 1-2 with a double and an RBI. Jessica Hirsch was 2-3 with an RBI. Kelsey Robinson was 2-3. Cassidy Rice was 1-4 with an RBI. Aubrey Davis (DP) was 1-3. The big hit of the night came from Ashley Ward who hit a Home Run with two runners on. Ward was 1-2 with 3 RBI for the game. Hailey Stewart was 1-1 as a pinch hitter. Katrina Whitley was 1-1 in a pinch hitting role. Other Indians seeing action were: Curry Emling (flex), Hadley Marek, Magen Edwards, Jessy Wallace, Cassidy Hill, Abby Myers, Kate Toler, Amanda Williams, and Bri Green. Coach James was able to play quite a few of his players in this game. DuQuoin's record is now 13-3 overall and 0-2 in the conference.
Coach James "thought Cassidy Rice was on her game today. She did a good job of hitting her spots. We played good defense behind her. We went out a little more focused, and swung the bats as well. Hopefully, we can stay focused, and keep going in the right direction."
The Jr. Varsity have a newly scheduled game at home on Wednesday with Benton (4:30). The Varsity plays at home on Friday with Sparta. The JV will play some innings after the Varsity game. Sparta is a conference game.
