BASEBALL: George fans 13 in Indians' first SIRR win
</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[DuQuoin High School Baseball got its first conference win of the season against Sparta on Thursday.
DuQuoin defeated Sparta 7-5 in the game. DuQuoin's conference record is 1-2 and 4-8 overall.
This game was originally scheduled for Friday, but was moved up because of an inclement weather forecast for Friday.
DuQuoin scored big in the first inning with three runs and then scored one run in every inning through the fifth inning making a total of seven runs.
Sparta did not score until the third with one run and then scored four runs in the seventh because of DuQuoin errors. DuQuoin had 5 errors and Sparta none.
Sparta had four hits and DuQuoin had 10 hits. J.C. Davis was 2-3 with an RBI. Kegan Robbins was 2-3 with 2 RBI. Brandon George was 1-3 with a double and an RBI. Jake Stanhouse was 1-4 with an RBI. Seth Baxter was 2-3 with an RBI. Connor Wheeler was 2-4.
Brandon George went six innings for the Indians allowing one earned run, two hits, 3 walks, and 13 strikeouts. George was the winning pitcher for DuQuoin. Trent Bigham relieved allowing 4 runs (all unearned), 2 hits, 1 walk and 2 strikeouts.
Coach Tim Craft was pleased with his pitchers. "Brandon George took the ball and really ran with it the first six innings. He really did a good job. We really did a good job of hitting early and scoring. We had opportunities to score more runs but didn't. Both Kegan Robbins and J.C. Davis had two hits and 3 RBIs for us. They played well. Kegan has really hit well the past few games."
DuQuoin plays at home on Monday, April 18, against Carterville. This is a conference game.
