SOFTBALL: Teague carries Elverado past Chester

The Lady Falcons turned a pair of singles into a pair of runs in the first inning, then tacked on two more on Teague's RBI single in the fifth while playing perhaps their best defensive game of the season.
"We are a pretty good ball team when we don't make any errors," said Lady Falcons' head softball coach Donette Wheatley. "Now we have to learn to play that way consistently."
Meghann Trammel and Chelsea Cochran led off the game with back-to-back singles and both ended up scoring later in the inning on a wild pitch then a passed ball.
Still up 2-0 in the top of the fifth, Elverado looked to add some insurance. Trammel led off the inning with a triple, then Cochran was hit by a pitch. Teague connected on an 0-2 pitch to send both Trammel and Cochran home for a 4-0 lead, more than enough for the senior pitcher and her defense on Thursday.
Teague (2-1) scattered nine hits and a hit batsmen with one strikeout, but the most important number was the zero in the runs column for the Lady Yellow Jackets.
"Kelsi did a great job on the mound and a few defensive changes got us a big conference win," Wheatley said.
Trammel (2-4, 3B, 2 R), Cochran (2-3, HBP, 2 R) and Teague (2-3, BB, 2 RBI) each had a pair of hits for the Lady Falcons. Lacey Qualls had the only other hit for Elverado, a single in the sixth inning. Sami Hicks (0-3) reached base safely with a walk in the third.
EHS is scheduled to host the Elverado Softball Invitational this Saturday, weather permitting. The Falcons (4-9, 1-2) open play in game one at 10:00, then return for the day's third game later in the afternoon.
