Elkville Sandbags

More than 75 tons of sand were shoveled into sacks at the Elkville park, then trucked to the two homes east of the ball park on Rt. 51 north of Elkville.
Other volunteers came to the town's wastewater treatment plant southeast of the village.
Mayor Lance Bedar said the pumphouse sits along a creek and volunteers had to sandbag the pumphouse three years ago and again back in 1993 and 1994 during high water.
The sandbags were loaded onto heavy trucks and transported to the sites where they were dumped onto ground, then handed along a bucket brigade to where they would be placed.
