Iley Cope
</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[Iley "Shorty" Cope, age 79, of Pinckneyville, Ill., passed away on Monday, April 18, 2011 at 6:30 a.m. in Good Samaritan Hospital, Mt. Vernon, Ill.
Shorty was born on Aug. 27, 1931 in Canalou, Mo., a son to John and Mildred (Ingram) Cope. He attended high school in Benton, Mo. and was a veteran of the United States Army serving during the Korean War. He had retired from Balls Food Stores in Kansas City, Mo. as a maintenance man in 1992 and moved to Pinckneyville to be with his children and grandchildren. Shorty enjoyed fishing and golfing.
Survivors include his children, Darrell Cope, Bruce (Jami) Cope and Karla (Don) Nehring, all of Pinckneyville, Ill.; four grandchildren, Gabriel Cope of Pinckneyville, Ill., Rachel Nehring of Dallas, Tex., Sarah Nehring of Pinckneyville, Ill. and Brandon Nehring of Steeleville, Ill.; four great-grandchildren, Aubrey Nehring, Lathyn Nehring, Amryn Nehring and Jaelyn Nehring; three brothers, John W. Cope and Clyde D. Cope, both of Missouri, and James K. Cope of California; a sister, Patricia (Richard) Hawkins of Missouri; a sister-in-law, Genola Cope of Missouri and several nieces, nephews and lots of friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Alfred Cope; two sisters-in-law, Madrene Cope and Judy Cope; and a nephew, Charles Cope who died in Vietnam.
Graveside services were held at Unity Cemetery, Benton, Mo. on Thursday, April 21, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Jim Barnett officiating.
Friends called at Pyatt Funeral Home, Pinckneyville, Ill. on Wednesday, April 20, 2011 from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.
