River City Renewal
</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[CHESTER, IL-River City Renewal, a newly formed not-for-profit organization in Chester, will work to promote physical, economic and social improvements in the city of Chester. The group is applying for 501(c)(3) nonprofit status to promote historic preservation and to combat physical, economic and social deterioration in Chester. A seven-member board of directors has been formed and has met to establish the organization's mission, vision and strategic plan. The current board consists of Chris Blechle, interim president; Tom Welge, treasurer; Linda Sympson, secretary; Allen Kaisor; Sandra Star; Dan Colvis and Brenda Owen. The group plans to follow up on the reports submitted by the In Alliance consultants in 2009 as a result of a grant from the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity.
River City Renewal plans to partner with the City and with other existing organizations to meet goals of moving forward in the areas of business, historic preservation, social and recreational activities and tourism promotion. The group is creating a "Friends of River City" support group to help see functions and activities to completion.
