</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[Teams are scrambling, trying to find someone to play after all the cancellations because of the rain and the flooding. Such was the case with DuQuoin on Thursday. A last minute game was arranged with Cobden. The two teams played at SIU--a field that is covered against the elements. DuQuoin came out the winner with a 4-3 score over defending Class 1A state champ, Cobden.
DuQuoin took the lead with a run in the second inning. DuQuoin added three runs in the third while Cobden scored two in that inning. Cobden managed to score one more run in the seventh inning to make the score 4-3 in DuQuoin's favor.
Kelsey Toler was 1-4. Jessica Hirsch was 1-1 with an RBI. Hirsch hit her second home run of the season. Kelsey Robinson was 1-3. Hadley Marek was 1-4 with an RBI. Cassidy Rice was 0-3, but got on base when she was hit by a pitch. Her courtesy runner, Bri Green, then scored a run. Magen Edwards was 1-3. Jessy Wallace was 1-3 with an RBI.
Cassidy Rice was the winning pitcher allowing 7 hits on three runs (2 earned), had two walks, and 12 strikeouts. Rice's record is 13-7 overall. Coach Jason James commented: "Again, I thought Rice pitched well. Our defense was much better behind her today." DuQuoin's record is 16-8 and 1-7 in the conference.
Coach James continued: "We still struggled at the plate--striking out 11 times. We will keep working hard, and keep at it."
