SOFTBALL: Goreville keeps tacking on in win at Pinckneyville

</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[Goreville, class 1A&#39;s sixth-ranked team, visited Pinckneyville on Monday and handed the Lady Panthers a 9-6 defeat, scoring at least one run in every inning except the third.

PCHS found a way to score in four different innings, but never led in the game. Dani Jenkel smacked a three-run homer in the bottom of the sixth to cut the Lady Blackcats&#39; lead to 8-6, but Pinckneyville couldn&#39;t come up with any more offense.

Shersty Stanton was 2-for-2 at the plate for the Lady Panthers, also connecting a sacrifice fly and driving in two runs. Jenkel (1-3, HR, R, 3 RBI), Chapman (1-4) Mo Ramsey (1-3), Taylor Cicardi (1-4) and Taylor Cheek (1-2) also hit safely for PCHS.

Emily Chapman fell to 7-5 with the loss, allowing six earned runs in five innings of work before Sara Malanowski took over in the sixth, going two innings and giving up a pair of earned runs.

The Lady Panthers (17-10) are at Benton on Tuesday before hosting Anna-Jonesboro on Wednesday and Marissa on Thursday. One other game has been added to the PCHS softball schedule as well, a Monday, May 16 home meeting with Elverado. All games are scheduled for a 4:30 p.m. first pitch.

Pinckneyville begins play in the Waltonville Regional on Wednesday, May 18 when they take on Du Quoin, also at 4:30 p.m.
