Pinckneyville to Sell "City Hall Annex"
</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[The Pinckneyville City Council asked City Attorney Roger Seibert to prepare a resolution authorizing the appraisal of the City Hall Annex, located at 111 South Walnut Street, in preparation for selling the building. Seibert said he would have the resolution ready for the next meeting.
Mayor August Kellerman said that the building must be appraised by a MAI-certified appraiser. He opposed the purchase of the building during his first term on the board and mentioned his intention to sell it several times during the campaign for his current office.
The annex is located across the street from City Hall and houses the economic development office for the city.
In other business, the council:
passed an ordinance authorizing the re-funding of Series 2011A(sales tax alternative revenue source) and Series 2011B(waterworks and sewerage alternative revenue source) general obligation bonds as was placed on file at the special meeting May 16. John Vezzetti of Bernardi Securities said he planned to price the bonds on Tuesday. He had contacted Seibert about re-funding the bonds, hoping to save the city $60,000. Based on the city's excellent Standard and Poor's A rating, he expects to save $80,000 to $90,000 by refunding. The council also authorized bond insurance with Assured Guaranty Municipal Corp. not to exceed $1.915 million. Vezzetti said he did not know if the insurance would be necessary, but will hold it in reserve for greater savings.
approved a certificate of abatement and reduction of taxes levied for the payment of bonds.
authorized Mayor Kellerman to execute a letter to Health Link renewing their contract to administer the city's medical insurance with the fee remaining at $8 per employee per month. Mayor Kellerman said that the city received $60,448 in medical bills the week of May 20. He has asked the insurance company representatives to meet with him in June to discuss ways to cut medical costs. The city is partially self-insured.
approved the sale of 1.84 acres of property to James R. and Cheryl R. Carlson and Big Cat Motors Inc. at a price of $20,000. Big Cat Motors is relocating next to McDaniel's Furniture.
approved ordinances prohibiting the sale, possession and delivery of synthetic cannabis and synthetic cocaine.
appointed City Treasurer Rick Reese to the Pinckneyville City Cemetery Board of Managers as Treasurer for a four-year term.
tabled discussion of the appointment of legal counsel for the city.
granted approval for the Perry County Humane Society to collect funds at locations around the square and four-way stop on Saturday, Oct. 15 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
granted approval for the Perry County Agricultural Society to collect funds for fireworks during the Perry County Fair at locations around the square and four-way stop on Saturday, June 11 from 8:30 a.m. to 12 p.m.
