GOLF: McDaniel wins Billie Ray Craig Junior Classic

</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[Red Hawk Golf Course hosted the 2011 Billie Ray Craig Junior Golf Classic on Tuesday afternoon with Heather McDaniel (Pinckneyville) claiming first place in the 16-18 year old girls age group, and Vandalia's Blake Swofford taking home a two-stroke victory in the 16-18 boys.

McDaniel shot 83 for 18 holes, 9 strokes better than Southern Illinois Golf Association Junior Tour points leader Alexis Lintker (Venedy).

Swofford edged Centralia's Kameron Decker with his round of 78 to build on his lead in the Junior Tour.

Other participants from the Perry County area that earned medals included Sarah and Megan Breslin (Pinckneyville), who swept the top twoo in the 10-11 year old girls category. Sarah shot 59, Megan 63 on 9 holes.

Nile Adcock (Pinckneyville) shot 17 for 3 holes to take first place in the boys age 6-7, with Tristan Green's (Pinckneyville) 21 placing him second.

Graci McDaniel (Pinckneyville) placed second in 8-9 year old girls and Jonah Winter (Pinckneyville) was second in the boys 4-5 year old group.

A total of 48 junior golfers from Southern Illinois took part in the one-day tournament.

The Classic, sponsored by Murphy-Wall State Bank and Trust Company, is named after the late Billie Ray Craig of Pinckneyville, an avid golfer and member of the Southern Ilinois Golf Hall of Fame.

The SIGA Junior Tour returns to action on June 14 at Roland Barkau M.G.C. The adult mens' Tour is at Carmi C.C. this Saturday and Sunday for an event.
