The funding is in support of a project titled, "RAPID: A Massive Floodplain Reconnects: Physical and Biotic Responses of the Birds Point Levee Breach in the Mississippi River," under the direction of James Garvey.
"Federal support is an important element in basic research," said Costello, a senior member of the House Committee on Science, Space, and Technology. "Projects such as these help fulfill the academic mission of the University, and I will continue to work to ensure that we adequately fund federal research and development programs."
