I am one of the rare adults I know who truly love summer, and I can't believe this break is almost over. I know that the calendar first said summer started a week ago, but in real life, its already been over a month, and we only have about seven weeks before we send the kids back to their routine. Say it ain't so.
For the last three or four weeks, I've been writing my column out longhand due to computer issues, which has probably amused one editor and frustrated the other (tried to read my handwriting on a fax lately?). But it was a good experience for me, and I found that I actually compose in about half the time when I use pen and paper. Truthfully, I suspect that is because if I am not on the computer, I am not distracted by the blinking "..... has sent you a message" at the bottom of the screen. Also, while I truly am a good speller, I am not a great typist, so I have more virtual scratch outs than I end up with on paper. Maybe because I think through the entire sentence before I commit it to words. Who knows!
Anyway, what's in the news this week? Our sympathy goes out to the family and friends of Robert Eichholz, who passed away recently. Birthday blessings to Martha Goessling, Katie Liefer (watch the roads, folks!) and Jennifer Heck Gilllison. Our anniversary couples this week are Dave and Pauline Eichenseer and Melvin and Verona Schwartz, with a special shout-out to Brian and Rachael Crowell, who are friends and former employees celebrating their 2nd anniversary this year.
The farmer's market is this Saturday at the Ruma park. Come on down and check out the fresh, home-grown produce. I am marking my personal calendar, because I will forget about it yet again if I don't put it on paper.
The tractor ride is coming up in just over two weeks. Sign up at the park between 8:00 and 8:45, the ride leaves at 9:00. To just show your tractor is free, to participate in the ride and games and be eligible for prizes the cost is a $20 donation to the park fund, which also gets you one meal and a button for participation. There will be BBQ pork steak with all the fixings, tea and lemonade to drink, games and a petting zoo, and the farmer's market will be in business as well.
Now, go forth and enjoy the last week in June. July will surely bring good things, including more sunshine, I can only hope. Have a good week, everyone, and God bless.
