SWIMMING: Cravens, Kuhnert, Henne win three at Mt. Vernon
</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[Three Perry County swimmers came home triple winners from this past Saturday's Larry Jukes Memorial Freestyle Classic in Mt. Vernon as Du Quoin's Olivia Cravens and Jerry Kuhnert and Pinckneyville's Ian Henne each won three events.
Teams from throughout southern Illinois competed in the 83-event invitational, which featured only the freestyle and a race-your-own-age format for most races.
Cravens, who had just set two Swimming Indians' records on Thursday in the 50m freestyle and 25m butterfly for 9-10 year-old girls, added a third to her resume with her win in the 25m freestyle on Saturday at a time of 15.16 seconds, eclipsing the previous 2004 record of 15.45 set by Taylor Stanhouse. The ten-year-old Cravens also won the 10&Under 100m freestyle and the 10-10 50m freestyle.
Kuhnert controlled the boys' 15-15 category, sweeping the 25m, 50m, and 100m freestyles for Du Quoin. Teammate Collin Dorsey also placed in the top three of all of the 15-15 events.
Like Cravens and Kuhnert, Henne dominated his age group's races on Saturday. The 13-year-old from Pinckneyville also won the 25m, 50m, and 100m freestyles for the 13-13 division. Bradley Denny earned the Dolphins only other win on the day in the boys' 6&UN 50m freestyle.
All Pinckneyville and Du Quoin swimmers who placed in the top six in any of the events are listed on Tuesday's Page 7 of the Du Quoin Evening Call.
The Swimming Indians are on the road Tuesday, traveling to Marion for a 6:30 p.m. meet. Pinckneyville is at home hosting Chester, also with a 6:30 p.m. scheduled start time.
