BASEBALL: Chapman fans 15 in Legion's shutout of Chester
</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[Evan Chapman continued a recent hot streak on the mound against Chester Post 487 on Wednesday, fanning 15 batters in a three-hit shutout as the Pinckneyville-Du Quoin Junior Legion (#1) team remained unbeaten in district play with a 7-0 win.
Chapman went right to work, getting the first two hitters looking before a swinging strikeout to retire the side in order in the top of the first inning. Chapman would strike out the side in order again in the third, and again in the fifth.
Meanwhile, the offense capitalized on a first inning error by Post 487 to score two runs, then took advantage of two more miscues in the second to build a 5-0 edge, more than enough the way Chapman was dealing.
Joey Burris (3-4) and Dylan Hardin (2-3, BB) both scored three runs to lead the offense. Travis Chapman (1-4), E. Chapman (1-4) and Justin Bumann (1-2, BB, R) also hit safely for Pinckneyville-Du Quoin Posts 2504 & 647.
Results of the second game on Wednesday were not made available at press time.
The #1 Junior team (13-5, 8-0) is at Salem for a doubleheader on Thursday at 5:00 p.m., then at home on Saturday against Lindbergh for two starting at noon.
