SWIMMING: Indians fourth at Centralia; Dolphins and Carlyle cut short by rain

</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body">Despite breaking or bettering ten team records, Du Quoin came home fourth as a team at this Saturday's Centralia Invitational. Individually, however, one Swimming Indian brought home five first place finishes, seven if you include two relays.

Olivia Cravens swam her way to victory in the girls 10&un 100m individual medley and girls 9-10 25m freestyle, 50m freestyle, 25m backstroke and 25m butterfly and finished second in the 9-10 25m breaststroke. Cravens was also a part of the 9-10 100m freestyle relay and 100m medley relay along with Lauren Cravens, Maddison Dorsey and Rachel Gomes. O. Cravens' story doesn't end there, as she also improved her team records in five events.

Only one other Du Quoin swimmer took home first place individually, and Trevor Jones did it twice. Jones won the boys 13-14 50m freestyle and 50m backstroke, improving his previous Swimming Indians 50m backstroke record in the process (32.54).

Jones also broke two other team records, bettering John Galik's 2008 time of 28.20 in the 13-14 100m freestyle with a 27.28 and breaking Jerry Kuhnert's 2010 record in the 100m IM (1:12.35) with a time of 1:11.74.

Jones claimed a third first place finish as part of the boys 13-14 200m medley relay, swimming with William Galik, Matthew Galik and Caleb Gomes.

Jacob Harsy also broke two team records in the boys 7-8 division; the 50m freestyle and the 100m IM.

Salem took first place in the 11-team meet. All Indians finishing in the top six of their events on Saturday are listed on Page 7 of Monday's Du Quoin Evening Call.

The Swimming Indians are at Harrisburg on Tuesday, host Salem on Thursday, then on Saturday at 8:30 a.m. will host the Du Quoin Swim Your Own Age Invitational.

Dolphins' meet at Carlyle cut short

When rain prematurely ended Pinckneyville's swim meet at Carlyle last Thursday, the Dolphins led 151-133 on points with eight individuals and six relay teams finishing in first place for their events.

Barrett Denny (boys 8&un 25m backstroke), Deja Jenkel (girls 8&un 25m backstroke), Gavin Sronce (boys 9-10 25m backstroke), Jacob Compton (boys 11-12 50m backstroke), Gailen Hall (boys 13-14 100m backstroke), Zach Hall (boys 15-18 100m backstroke), Cole Kelly (boys 9-10 25m butterfly) and Noah Sprehe (boys 11-12 50m butterfly) all won races before weather took over.

All Dolphins who finished in top 4 and received points for Pinckneyville in the meet are listed on Page 7 of Monday's Du Quoin Evening Call.

The Dolphins are at Chester on Tuesday and Red Bud on Thursday.
