SOFTBALL: Makanda no match for Falcons

</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[The Pinckneyville Falcons kept their record perfect in the Southern Illinois Fastpitch League on Wednesday night, thumping Makanda 8-1 and 17-6 while resting their regular pitching arms.

The Falcons offense got on a roll in the bottom of the second inning, plating seven runs on five hits and a walk including a two-run homer from Mason Woodside.

Haven Hicks manned the pitching circle for Pinckneyville, throwing all five innings of the short-game victory. Hicks allowed one run, five hits and six walks while striking out three.

At the dish, Woodside (2-3, R, 2 RBI, HR), Jay McCrary (2-3, R, RBI) and Adam Barczewski (2-2, R, 2 RBI, 3B) each had two hits in game one. Lyle Winter (1-3, R, 2B), Eric Saunders (1-3, R, RBI), Hayden Hicks (1-1, 2 R, BB) and Brandon George (1-1), making his Falcons debut, also hit safely.

In game two, Saunders toed the rubber and picked up the win in five innings, allowing seven hits and fanning two. Barczewski (3-4), George (3-4), Derek Beninati (3-5) and Brandon Hardin (3-4, HR) all had three hits.

Ricky Kasban (2-3), Winter (2-4, HR), McCrary (2-4), Hav. Hicks (2-3), and Hay. Hicks (2-4, inside-the-park GS) also contributed in the lopsided outcome.

The Falcons (31-16, 16-0) head to Teutopolis on Friday to take part in the 2011 T-Town Invite, where they meet Koerner Miller Lite at 6:00 p.m. and T-Town KC&#39;s at 9:00 p.m.

Pinckneyville then returns on Saturday to face Altamont Tri-Power at 10:30 a.m. before the eight-team tournament&#39;s four-team playoff begins at 1:00 p.m.

Other teams in the tournament include Wessel&#39;s Coors Light, Jumpin&#39; Jimmy&#39;s, Kreke&#39;s Tree Service and Altamont Home Center.
