Landfill in Default, Reports not Filed
</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[The board passed a resolution declaring Perry Ridge Landfill in default of the host community benefits agreement. Perry Ridge is required to pay the County all fees and monies due each quarter by the fifteenth of the month following the end of the quarter. So far this year, the landfill has paid only for January. The second quarter ended June 30.
County Clerk Kevin Kern said that in the past, he has been able to use the reports filed by the landfill to determine exactly what is owed the county. He was unable to do so this time because the landfill has not filed the required reports either.
In other business, the board:
authorized Board Chairman Bobby Kelly to execute labor contracts for employees at the Perry County Highway Department and clerical workers in the Government Building upon the approval of State's Attorney David Stanton. The board declined to give an specifics about the contracts because negotiations are ongoing with the two remaining bargaining units covering employees in the State's Attorney's and Circuit Clerk's offices.
heard from Regional Superintendent of Schools Donna Boros that things are progressing normally in Perry and Jackson Counties despite the uncertainty over funding for Regional Offices of Education. The fall semester begins Aug. 4 in Tamaroa and Aug. 9 in Pinckneyville. The ROE is training bus drivers, checking certifications for teachers and doing other regular tasks in preparation for the return to school. Boros said the line item for salaries for ROE superintendents and assistants has been removed from the budget. ROE offices are hoping to receive interim funding until the next veto session.

Treasurer Bill Taylor said that 65 percent or $9.25 million in real estate taxes were collected in the first installment. He mailed the disbursement checks to taxing bodies on Thursday, July 21. The second installment is due Aug. 19.
